Distributed I/O control system for short-range machine control applications
The AAC Serial Bus Control System is a short-range distributed input/output system that emphasizes speed, simplicity, and economy. It has been used internationally since 1997 in light to medium industrial control applications.
The traditional approach to control systems is to centralize the electronics and wire all input and output devices to that one location.
The Serial Bus approach places small electronic modules very close to each input or output device. These modules are then interconnected with a single cable in a network fashion.
Serial Bus Advantages
The controller does not limit the number of input or output devices.
The same controller can be used for each type of machine
The modules are identical between machine types. This allows reduced spare parts inventory.
Wiring connectors and terminal blocks are reduced. This means that it is faster to design, build and troubleshoot. It is more cost effective in time and materials. Also, the reduced complexity increases reliability.
Failures are easily detected and fixed.
Modifications and upgrades are easy to do and are inexpensive.

Bus Topologies
The bus topology can be ring, star, tree, multidrop, linear, or a combination of these. To maintain simplicity, the bus is unterminated which results in signal reflections. To keep reflections to an acceptable level, the bus length from any end to any other end should be limited to 25 feet. However, lengths beyond 75 feet have been successful in linear bus layouts.
